Sewing Wrap/Needlebook 08

A very sweet and unusual sewing wrap/kit/needlecase made using recycled vintage linens and cottons. It is made to have the appearance of having been loved and cherished for many years and the type of treasured item that might have been passed through the generations. The naive stitching and repaired and discoloured look is intentional to give this impression. The linens and textiles in this wrap have been hand dyed and have also been tea dyed in parts to give them more of an aged look. The spots and uneven dyeing is part of the charm. There are intentionally raw edges and frayed textiles to enhance the timeworn look.

The front of the wrap is embellished with lace, vintage button, a tiny vintage key and a freshwater pearl and a scattering of glass seed beads.  It is layered and collaged using muslin, sari silk and other vintage textile fragments.  It features a small group of embroidered flowers.

Inside there is a small selection of needles and pins and other vintage sewing notions - some of which are worn as is expected for their age. There's plenty of room to add your own favourite items and treasures. It ties together with a sari silk ribbon and would look beautiful on a dressing table or in your sewing room.  It is a beautiful item to love and cherish and although has a practical purpose it must be remembered that some of the textiles are old and fragile and may not withstand being repeatedly put into a handbag for a bit of sneaky lunchtime sewing at work or days out.

It measures approx 25cm (to the longest piece of lace) by 8.5cm closed and 25cm by 27cm open.

It would make a beautiful and unusual gift for a sewing lover or lover of vintage textiles and handmade work.
