A sew it yourself textile slow stitch book pack - diy textile book kit
A juicy big creative pack of mainly vintage and a few modern textile pieces, plus antique and vintage lace pieces and fragments and a ready prepared book base for you to sew onto, to create your own textile slow stitch book.
The idea of the book is to have an ongoing project which you can dip into and add to whenever you wish. Ideally it's something to be pondered and taken slowly and carefully....a bit of mindful sewing escapism and sewing therapy which will provide you with many hours of happy slow stitching.
Amongst the textiles are a few plain coloured/hand dyed pieces backed with interfacing....so you can cut tiny circles out if you wish to do the round flower detail as in the example. There are a few pieces of very fragile Edwardian quilt, some vintage quilt and some lovely old vintage French embroidered pieces (not shown in the photos). Also included are a small selection of vintage cotton and mother of pearl buttons and a length of recycled sari silk to make the tie fastener with.
I’ve called this a pack rather than a kit as there are no detailed instructions…just the materials for you to create your own masterpiece and design on the textile base. I do include a printed sheet with some suggestions and stitch diagrams to help you.
There are plenty of textile pieces in the pack for you to richly decorate your project and a small amount of thread and embroidery floss to get you started. I’ve also included a small embroidery needle…so all you need are scissors and a few pins. You may of course like to add some of your own materials into your project.
I have not referred to the textile pieces as scraps as that suggests they are unwanted remnants when to me every fragment of textile however tiny is valuable and useful. There may be some very small pieces in the pack and this is perhaps because I only have small amounts of these fabrics left but still wanted to include them as they are so lovely and valuble. The textiles may vary very slightly in each pack, I have tried to keep them mostly the same.
The slow stitch book base is made from a vintage french linen sheet which is quite thick and textured/slubby. Some of the vintage textiles may have marks and discolouration as is expected for their age, all are clean.
The base has a 100% cotton wadding inside it making it easy to applique and attach your textile and embroidery work onto. I have tea dyed some of my example piece but not the textiles in the packs as you may like to do this yourself.
The outer cover of the book base measures approximately 14cm by 14cm when closed, they may very slightly. There are three pieces to the base, making six double sided pages in total.
Further example images can be found on the January blog on this website and I am more than happy to offer advice and help...please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
The slow stitch book style and pack is my own design and not for reproduction or resale.
